Ministry says food prices in Russia mostly stable

VLADIVOSTOK, Sep 6 (PRIME) -- The situation with food prices in Russia is generally stable, and the prices of basic vegetables have reduced significantly, Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Viktor Yevtukhov said in an interview with PRIME released on Monday.

“In general, the situation with food prices is stable. This was also facilitated by the government order to expand sales channels, that has increased the number of fairs in the regions, making it easier for small farms to sell their products,” Yevtukhov said.

The prices for sugar and sunflower oil remained stable as they were supported by the agreements on price fixing, he added.

“Chicken eggs … have fallen in price so that now poultry farmers are experiencing certain difficulties. A similar situation can be seen with meat, including poultry,” he also said.

Yevtukhov also said that “prices of basic vegetables decrease naturally” due to the harvest and season factors.

The potato prices have been falling, but now took a pause due to the harvest time lag between Russia’s southern and central regions, he added. “We hope to see the prices go down again soon,” he said.
